Softball: Big hits result in 9-0 win over Pasadena City

The Cerritos College softball team recorded 12 hits, including four extra base hits, as they handed host Pasadena City College a 9-0, 5-inning South Coast Conference decision on Thursday. The win by the Falcons (14-7, 8-2) was their second in as many days and the team will now travel to Bakersfield to play four games in two days. They open with games against Saddleback College (12:00 p.m.) and Santa Barbara City (2:00 p.m.) and follow that with games against Riverside College (2:00 p.m.) and the host Renegades (4:00 p.m. on Sunday.

In the win over the Lancers, sophomore designated player Julia Mendoza (Los Altos HS) helped open up a big lead with her three-run home run in the top of the third inning for a 6-0 lead. Prior to her round-tripper, freshman third baseman Ariana Mejia (Gahr HS) singled in a run. Three more runs followed in the next inning, as freshman pitcher Jamie Ramirez (El Rancho HS), Mejia and Mendoza all drove in runs.

Ramirez went three innings in the circle and allowed a pair of hits to earn the win, with sophomore Kayla Klein (La Habra HS/Texas A&M University) pitched the final two innings.

On the day, Mendoza was 2-for-3 with four RBI, while freshman Arianna Hernandez (Santa Fe HS), along with sophomores Katie Caraballo (El Rancho HS/Fullerton CC) and Andrea Arellano (Downey HS) all added a pair of hits.
