Jumping out to a 5-0 lead over host Compton College in a South Coast Conference South Division game on Thursday, the Cerritos College softball team held on for the win. The 5-3 victory was their fourth in a row and improved the team's record to 11-6 overall and 3-0 in divisional play. The Falcons were scheduled to travel to Santa Barbara City College on Friday, but that game has been postponed due to rain in the area. They will travel to Ventura College on Saturday for an 11:00 a.m. non-conference game.

Cerritos took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning and saw that lead swell to 4-0 lead after sophomore catcher Briana Lopez (Norwalk HS) clubbed a three-run home run. It was 5-0 heading into the top of the sixth inning, with the Tartars accounting for the final three runs of the game to complete the final score.

With two outs and freshman outfielder Brianna Spoolstra (Mayfair HS) on second base after a double, sophomore second baseman Rain Vega (La Mirada HS) hit a ball to left field that was misplayed for a two-base error, which allowed Spoolstra to score. In the big fifth inning, freshman outfielder Kayla Aros (Torrance HS) led off with a single and stole second base. She moved to third on a single by sophomore outfielder Emma Wolff (Mayfair HS), which set the table for Lopez, who hit her team-leading eighth home run, which also moves her into second place in the state.

Freshman first baseman Keira Bolinas (Torrance HS) led off the sixth inning with a triple and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore designated player Tatyana Peko (La Habra HS).

Freshman pitcher Sierra Gerdts (Montebello HS) kept the game scoreless until the Cerritos could come to life. She pitched out of a bases loaded situation in the bottom of the second inning and limited Compton to four hits until a two-run home run in the sixth inning ended her shutout bid. Freshman Allisyn Udell (Whittier Christian HS) came in to pitch the seventh inning and earned her first save of the season.
