With the final two undefeated teams remaining in the South Coast Conference South Division facing each other, the Cerritos College softball team was defeated by host El Camino College, 10-3 on Tuesday. The Falcons (11-7, 3-1) will host Chaffey College in a conference crossover game at Nancy Kelly Field at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, a play on the bases was considered to be called incorrectly by the umpires, prompting head coach Kodee Murray to file a protest. After its formal filing, the game was resumed under protest with Cerritos leading the game 3-2. On the play in question, the Warriors' Ashley Machado scored the game-tying run. Should the protest be validated, the game will be resumed with the Falcons leading 3-2 and one out in the fifth.

By the end of the inning, El Camino had gone up, 4-3 and added six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning off freshman relief pitcher Allisyn Udell (Whittier Christian HS), who came in for freshman starter Sierra Gerdts (Montebello HS) after the fifth inning.

The Falcons overcame a 2-0 deficit with three runs in the top of the fifth inning. Freshman catcher Deja Sendejas (El Rancho HS) opened with a single and when Gerdts moved her to second base on a sacrifice bunt, Sendejas looked to advance to third base, but was called out. Sophomore outfielder Briana Lopez (Norwalk HS) followed with a two-out double and advanced to third base on a single by freshman outfielder Kayla Aros (Torrance HS). Cerritos got on the board when freshman shortstop Brianna Spoolstra (Mayfair HS) singled. Freshman first baseman Keira Bolinas (Torrance HS) then laced a two-run single to put the team in the lead.

In the sixth, the Falcons stranded a pair of runners in scoring position when Lopez struck out to end the threat. The Warriors then scored six runs on five hits, along with a walk and hit batter against Udell.
