Looking to score an upset win over #14-ranked East Los Angeles College on Wednesday night, the Cerritos College women's basketball team came up short in a 62-54 loss. The South Coast Conference crossover loss by the Falcons dropped their season record to 7-10, while the Huskies are now 14-5. The team will travel to El Camino College on Friday for a 3:00 p.m. crossover game against Mt. San Antonio College.

Thoughts of the upset were brightest when sophomore Sarah Hernandez (St. Paul HS) drained a long three-pointer from the top of the key to draw the team to within 56-54 with 2:47 left in the second half. They had a chance to tie the game on their next possession, but freshman Nicole Lizarraga (Cantwell Sacred Heart HS) missed her jumper and East LA came back down the floor to score and make it a 58-54 game with 1:48 remaining.

The Huskies were off on a layup on their next possession and after they missed on the put-back, Lizarraga pulled down the rebound. With a chance to get to within a point, Cerritos turned the ball over and then committed a foul. After a pair of converted free throws by Maria Martinez, the Huskies opened a six-point lead (60-54) with just :30 seconds left. Three more scoring chances fell by the wayside and East LA was able to connect on two of their final four three throws to close out the game.

Hernandez led all scorers with 23 points and also added seven rebounds, with freshman Jordan Lewis (Downey HS) hauling in a team-high 12 rebounds to go along with her eight points. Lizarraga added 10 points and eight caroms, with sophomore Mariah Lora (Warren HS) contributing seven points and five assists. Limited to just six players due to injuries, the Huskies received 22 points from Citlaly Davalos, with Jaidin Lacount leading all players with 15 rebounds, while Martinez had 15 points.
