With thoughts of an upset on their minds, the Cerritos College women's basketball team led host El Camino College, 47-38 after three quarters. But the Warriors (8-12, 3-0) were able to limit the Falcons (7-14, 0-3) to just six fourth quarter points and recorded a 57-53 South Coast Conference decision. Cerritos will look for their first divisional win on Friday at 5:00 p.m. when they travel to Compton College.

Helping the Falcons out to their lead was sophomore guard Mariah Lora (Warren HS), who scored 12 of her team-high 14 points through the first three quarters. However, the team was just 3-for-17 from the field in the fourth quarter, while El Camino went 7-of-13 and converted all four of their free throws.

In the final moments of the third quarter, sophomore Kayla Sta. Ana (St. Joseph HS) netted a pair of free throws, followed by a layup from freshman Nicole Lizarraga (Cantwell Sacred Heart HS) for a 47-36 lead. It would take 4:15 of the fourth quarter before the Falcons would score again, as El Camino came back to take the lead. The layup by Lora put Cerritos back on top. 49-48, and when Lizarraga converted a layup, it was a three-point lead (51-48) with 3:56 left on the clock. The lead then swelled to five points with 1:56 remaining after another Lizarraga bucket.

But Cerritos did not score the remainder of the game, with the Warriors putting 10 points on the board to pull out the win.

Along with the 14 points from Lora, the duo of Lizarraga and Sta. Ana each scored 10 points, with freshman Therese Zekajj (Legacy HS) coming off the bench to pull down 10 rebounds, with five of them on the offensive end. Freshman Precious Yerena (Downey HS) posted nine points with five rebounds, while sophomore Sarah Hernandez (St. Paul HS) added eight points and eight boards.
