The Cerritos College women's swimming team competed in their first South Coast Conference dual meet of the season on Friday. The Falcons, competing at Pasadena City College, dropped a 175-96 decision to the Lancers, and were defeated, 168-107 to Mt. San Antonio. The team will now travel to the Cuesta Invitational this weekend.

On the day, the team won one event, while they placed second and third place in three more events. Sophomore Amanda Loya (St. Joseph HS) led the team with a first place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:37.76. This is the first year they have added the 200-yard distances in meets, and Loya currently holds the school record in the 100-yard breaststroke. She also placed second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:25.66 and was barely edged for first place by Connie Peng of Pasadena City College, who finished in 2:26.02. Sophomore teammate Stephanie Alfaro (Gahr HS) took third place with a time of 2:37.40.

The 200-yard medley relay team of sophomore Angela Covarrubias (Paramount HS), Loya, Stephanie Alfaro and freshman Elizabeth Alfaro (Gahr HS) posted a second place time of 2:05.28. Loya also came in third place in the 200-yard IM (2:24.47), with Stephanie Alfaro earning a third place finish in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:10.65. Covarrubias took second place with a time of 1:11.41 in the 100-yard backstroke and third in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:01.86. In the 1-meter diving competition, freshman Amanda Rabb (Gahr HS) earned 127.35 points to come in second place.
