Led by sophomore Amanda Loya's (St. Joseph HS) three individual first place finishes, as well as one relay win, the Cerritos College women's swimming team defeated both Long Beach City College (138.5-127.5) and Rio Hondo College (211-55) in their South Coast Conference meet on Friday. The Falcons posted eight individual first place finishes to go along with their relay win to sweep their opponents. The team will now travel to El Camino College next Friday to take on the Warriors and East Los Angeles College.

Loya earned her first win with a time of 1:13.26 in the 100-yard breaststroke, and picked up the double with her time of 2:38.12 to win the 200-yard breaststroke. She won the first event by five seconds, while she bested the field by :14 seconds in the longer race. Loya earned her third win in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:24.21.

She also swam the second leg of the 200-yard medley relay that came in first place and was joined by Angela Covarrubias (Paramount HS), Stephanie Alfaro (Gahr HS) and Elizabeth Alfaro (Gahr HS) to post a time of 2:03.12 and won by eight seconds.

Covarrubias also won a pair of events and started with a time of 1:10.04 in the 100-yard backstroke to edge Molly Crawford of LBCC, who finished in 1:10.85. In the 100-yard freestyle, it was the time of 1:00.17 by Covarribias that edged Elizabeth Alfaro, who came in second place at 1:01.54. Elizabeth Alfaro won the sprint in the 50-yard freestyle by posting a time of 27.62, which was just ahead of Samantha Martinez of LB City.

Amanda Rabb (Gahr HS) won the 1-meter and 3-meter diving event with 115.80 points. Elizabeth Alfaro also placed second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:10.38) and was beat by .07 of a second, while Covarrubias took second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:50.80). In the 100-yard butterfly, Stephanie Alfaro placed second in a time of 1:09.68 and just missed out on winning, with Ashley Diaz of LB City coming in first place in 1:09.11.
