In their first meet of the 2022 season, the Cerritos College women's track and field team captured first place in four events at the Mt. San Antonio Opener on Friday. The Falcons will be back in action next Friday when they compete in the Riverside City Relays.
Freshman Angelina Escobar was a two-time winner, as she captured the discus (37.09 meters) and the hammer (42.78), while the Falcons also secured the second place position in the hammer with freshman Faitalia Ah-Fook recording a distance of 38.78 meters. Ah-Fook also placed third in the discus with a throw of 32.94 meters. It was Ah-Fook that finished fourth in the shot put (10.05 meters), with Escobar right behind in fifth place at 9.66 meters.
In the long jump, freshman Jazzmine Davis posted winning a distance of 5.19 meters (17' 1.2"), with teammate Aryianna Faircloth coming in second place at 5.04 meters (16' 6 1/2"). Davis also took second place in the javelin at 27.93 meters (91' 8), with her time of 9.62 earning her a second place in the 60 meter hurdles. Freshman Michelle Campos also competed in the javelin, with her distance of 24.12 meters (79' 2") puting her in third place.
The Falcons fourth individual champion was Faircloth, whose time of 41.63 in the 300 meters easily defeated the field, with freshman Jordan Murphy the closest Cerritos runner at 45.66, good for fifth place. The duo of Sophie Lopez (2:32.07) and Isis Johnson (2:35.73) posted second and third place times, respectively, in the 800 meters. Cerritos also entered a pair of 1600-meter relay teams and they finished in second and third place.
