The Cerritos College women's water polo team split their two games on the first day of the San Diego Mesa Tournament on Friday. Playing their two games at Miramar College, the Falcons (5-8) opened with a 13-2 win over the host Jets and then dropped a 15-4 decision to San Joaquin Delta College. On Saturday, the team will switch to San Diego Mesa College for their two games.

Cerritos vs. Miramar: The Falcons aggressively attacked the goal in their game against the Jets, as they took 40 shots. A lot of their offense came as a result of their defensive pressure, which produced 15 steals, with freshman Jenny Parra (Schurr HS) leading the team with five steals. Cerritos took a 3-1 lead after the first period and led 7-2 at intermission. Their defense didn't not allow Miramar to score in the second half. On the offensive side, Parra posted three goals, while freshman Vanessa Hinojosa (Bell Gardens HS) led the team with five goals in a winning cause. Freshmen Channon Owens (Kennedy HS) and Mikaela Padilla (Schurr HS) combined for seven assists, while sophomore goalie Amanda Rabb (Gahr HS) recorded eight blocks.

Cerritos vs. San Joaquin Delta: Goals were tough to come by against the Mustangs, who posted their second win of the season over Cerritos. The Falcons were only able to score once per period, while Delta recorded 11 of their goals in the second and third period. Hinojosa accounted for three of the team's goals, while Parra had three steals, with Owens and Rabb each adding two in the loss. Rabb also turned away five shots.
