In a low scoring South Coast Conference match on Wednesday, the Cerritos College women's water polo team posted a 5-4 win over visiting Pasadena City College. The Falcons (6-12, 3-3), who will serve as one of the hosts of the Battle of the Beach Tournament this weekend, will take on Fullerton College at 8:00 a.m. on Friday in their first of two games. They will play two more games on Saturday at Cypress College.

Cerritos opened the game by scoring the first two goals. Freshman Vanessa Hinojosa (Bell Gardens HS) scored past Clarque DeYoung just 37 seconds into the game while freshman Channon Owens (Kennedy HS) made it a 2-0 game 6:30 left in the first period. The Lancers (8-9, 3-3) made it 2-1 with 41 seconds remaining in the first period. Neither team would score, but had chances, with shots hitting the frame of the cage.

Owens also shut down PCC with a career-high 10 steals, with freshman Jenny Parra (Schurr HS) adding four steals and two assists. Pasadena City was able to tie the game on their first possession of the second half. The teams looked to break the deadlock until sophomore Breanna Zuniga (California HS) scored with 4:49 left in the fourth period. Hinojosa picked up her third goal with 2:30 left on a behind the head shot that gave the Falcons a two-goal lead.

Sharon Perez scored for Pasadena City with 21 seconds left, but the Falcons were able to run out the clock to secure the win. Sophomore goalie Amanda Rabb (Gahr HS) posted four saves and had two steals for Cerritos.
