For the first two periods of their South Coast Conference women's water polo match, Cerritos College was playing an even game (trailed, 6-5) with visiting Chaffey College. But the Falcons (5-11, 2-2) could only get one more past Panthers (7-5, 4-0) goalie Angel Duran in the second half and suffered a 10-6 loss. The team will travel to Long Beach City College on Monday for a 3:00 p.m. conference match.

Cerritos scored the first two goals of the game by freshmen Valerie Barboza (Paramount HS) and Vanessa Hinojosa (Bell Gardens HS), and even led 3-2 in the second quarter. But the Chaffey and the Falcons erratic shots prevented them from holding that lead, as the Panthers scored six of the next eight goals to take an 8-5 lead.

On numerous occasions, Cerritos had chances to add to their scoring output, but shots were wide and high of the goal, coupled with Duran posting 14 saves. Many of those shots were sent right at Duran, who only needed to catch the ball, as opposed to being required to make saves. The Falcons missed 23 shots on the day.

Hinojosa scored twice for Cerritos, with four others adding one goal. In the net, sophomore Amanda Rabb (Gahr HS) came away with six blocks. Freshman Jenny Parra (Schurr HS) posted five steals, with a trio of players coming up with a pair of steals.
