Continuing to set firsts in their inaugural season, the Cerritos College women's wrestling team defeated three other colleges to win the first-ever CCCAA Team Dual State Championship on Friday in Fresno. The Falcons posted wins over Bakersfield College (48-0) and Sacramento City College (45-12) in their first two matches and then capped off the championship day with a 45-9 win over Mt. San Antonio College. Next up for the team will be a conference dual match at Mt. San Antonio on Thursday.

In their first match against the Renegades, Cerritos only needed to compete in four matches, as they were awarded forfeit wins in five of the weight classes. At 160 pounds, freshman Natalie Flores (Downey HS) earned an 8-5 win, which saw her trailing early in the second period, 3-2. She responded with a takedown before the end of the period and added a reversal in the third period to help pull away with the win. Freshman Jewelysa Funakoshi (West Torrance HS) picked up the team's first competitive victory at 123 pounds, as she recorded a 7-4 win. Down, 4-2 through the first two periods, Funakoshi scored the third period's only points, a four-point near-fall, which was enough to come away with the win. The duo of 148-pound Aine Drury (Westminster HS) and 180-pound Nile Jernigan (Cerritos HS) each recorded quick pins in the other two matches.
