For the second straight game, a trio of Cerritos College pitchers held their opponents off the scoreboard, while the offense did just enough to pick up the win. On Saturday, the Falcons (2-0) scored four first-inning runs against visiting Citrus College and rode that run support for a 4-0 con-conference win. On Thursday, Cerritos shut out College of the Canyons, 1-0. The team will now take to the road on Tuesday for a 2:00 p.m. game against Ventura College.

Sophomore pitcher Dylan Algra (Valley Christian HS) surrendered just four hits in seven innings of work and struck out eight batters to earn the win. He allowed two of those hits in the first inning, but settled down to retire 19 of the next 21 batters he faced. Freshman Joe Fernandez (St. Paul HS) pitched the next 1 2/3 innings before sophomore Elpidio Martin (Lynwood HS) earned the save by striking out pinch-hitter Mason Jandro with a runner on first.

All of the Falcons offense came in the bottom of the first inning against starting pitcher Brian Blackburn. Sophomore outfielder Johnny Martinez (Katella HS) led off with a walk and was sacrificed to second base and then moved to third on a ground out. Sophomore catcher Chris Carrillo (St. Paul HS/San Jose State University) then drew a walk, which set the table for sophomore third baseman Hayden Stevens (Katella HS), who singled home Martinez. Freshman second baseman Victor Guadalupe (La Quinta HS) doubled in a run down the left field line before sophomore designated hitter Joseph Aguirre (Kennedy HS) doubled to right-center, driving in the final runs of the inning.

The team was only able to advance runners past first base in the second and fifth innings against three Owl relief pitchers. As for Algra, he allowed just one runner to advance past second base after giving up two hits in the first stanza. At one point, he struck out four straight batters and got seven ground ball outs to go with his eight punchouts.
