Baseball: Falcons score four runs in seventh inning and post 5-2 win

On the strength of their four-run seventh inning, the Cerritos College baseball team came back to post a 5-2 non-conference win over host Golden West College on Tuesday. The Falcons (6-6) won their second straight game and will now host Glendale College at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The game was moved up two days in order to beat the pending inclimate weather.

Trailing 2-0, Cerritos scored a single run in the sixth inning and then added four more runs in the seventh inning. With two outs, sophomore Johnny Martinez (Katella HS) singled and advanced to third on a double by freshman Kyle Carpenter (Mayfair HS). Sophomore Jared Robinson (Bishop Amat HS) followed with a base hit off David Wiggins (2-1), which drove in both runs. Quentin McGrath replaced Wiggings, and sophomore Hayden Stevens (Katella HS) met him with an RBI single, followed by another run-scoring single from Chris Carrillo (St. Paul HS/San Jose State University).

Carpenter (2-1), who came on in relief of starter Dylan Algra (Valley Christian HS), pitched the final five innings to earn the win. He allowed just three hits along with way, with two of them coming in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs But he got Conner Larson to fly out and end the threat. Carpenter then retired the final six batters to seal the win. While he was in the game, Algra surrendered two runs on five hits and struck out four batters.

Offensively, the Falcons had 13 hits, with Carpenter leading the way with a 3-for-5 day ay the plate, while Martinez, Carrillo and sophomore Jose Romero (Whittier HS) each had two hits.
