In their best offensive output of the season, the Cerritos College baseball team posted a 14-0 win over host Cuesta College on Wednesday. The Falcons (21-11), winners in eight of their last nine games, finished their brief two-game road trip with a pair of wins. Holding onto first place in the South Coast Conference, the team will conclude their regular season with a three-game series against ECC Compton, with the first game at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Kincaid Field.

Cerritos scored three in the top of the first inning, and by the end of the third inning, they held a 10-0 lead. The Cougars (10-23) didn't help their situation, as they committed two of their six errors in the first inning. Sophomore outfielder Johnny Martinez (Katella HS) led off the game with a base hit and advanced all the way to third base when Cuesta pitcher Jackson Gentes threw the ball away. Sophomore shortstop Daniel Lopez (Montebello HS), who was inserted in the #2 spot in the batting order, doubled home Martinez, his first of four hits and four RBI on the day.

In their seven-run third inning, sophomore designated hitter Jared Robinson (Bishop Amat HS) and sophomore third baseman Hayden Stevens (Katella HS) opened with singles. A fielder's choice cut down Robinson at third base before freshman second baseman Victor Guadalupe (La Quinta HS) loaded the bases with a base hit. Sophomore outfielder Jose Ayala (Maywood Academy HS) singled in a run and before the end of the inning, both Robinson and Stevens drove in a pair of runs with hits.

Sophomore pitcher Dylan Algra (Valley Christian HS) earned the win with seven innings of work, allowing just two hits. The duo of freshman George Mendoza (Bell Gardens HS) and Elpidio Martin (Lynwood HS) each pitched an inning to finish off the shutout, their sixth of the season.

Of the team's 17 hits, 11 of them came from the first four spots in the batting order, as Martinez finished with three hits, while Robinson and Stevens each added two. In addition to collecting four hits on the day, Lopez also drew a walk and drove in four runs. Freshman catcher Frank Vargas (El Rancho HS) added a two-run pinch-hit double in the ninth inning.
