Cerritos College sophomore pitcher/outfielder Jared Robinson (Bishop Amat HS) was named the South Coast Conference Player of the Year, while head coach Ken Gaylord received the Coach of the Year honor. The Falcons (24-12), who are the tri-champions of the SCC, open the Southern California Regional Playoffs this weekend against Los Angeles Pierce College at Kincaid Field starting on Friday.

Robinson, who went 6-2 with three saves on the mound and batted .275 with 14 RBI and nine stolen bases at the plate during conference play, was a 2nd Team selection last season. He leads the team on the season with a 9-4 pitching record with a 2.44 ERA and is also batting .292 with a team-leading 10 doubles and 21 RBI.

As for Gaylord, this the eighth time he has been named the conference's Coach of the Year, and fifth time with the Falcons. He served as the head coach at Long Beach City College before taking the helm with Cerritos in 1992. This is also the ninth time in his tenure that he has led the Falcons to the conference title.

Also named 1st Team All-South Coast Conference was freshman utility player Kyle Carpenter (Mayfair HS) and sophomore closer Elpidio Martin (Lynwood HS). Sophomore pitcher Dylan Algra (Valley Christian HS) and sophomore third baseman Hayden Stevens (Katella HS) earned 2nd Team recognition, while first baseman Jose Romero (Whittier HS), sophomore outfielder Jose Ayala (Maywood Academy HS) and freshman shortstop Daniel Lopez (Monetebello HS) received honorable mention recognition.

Carpenter, the team's batting leader at .337, also went 6-2 with a 1.94 ERA on the mound during the regular season, while Martin is tied for third in the state with eight saves and went 1-0 on the year with a 0.77 ERA. As for Algra, he is 6-4 on the season with one save and a 2.24 ERA, with Stevens hitting at a .306 clip with 17 RBI and 11 stolen bases. Romero (.296, 2 HR, 18 RBI), Ayala (.293, 3 triples) and Lopez (.273, 20 RBI) all played critical roles in leading the Falcons to the conference title.
