The duo of sophomores Dylan Algra (Valley Christian HS) and Jared Robinson (Bishop Amat HS) combined to toss a four-hit shutout, as the Cerritos College baseball team defeated Los Angeles Harbor College on Thursday, 3-0. The win by the Falcons (12-9, 5-3) was their third in a row and the team will look to sweep the Seahawks (101, 2-6) on Saturday at noon at Kincaid Field.

Algra (4-2) lasted the first eight innings and allowed two hits, while Robinson allowed singles to the first two batters he faced in the ninth inning. After striking out Tim Martin, sophomore catcher Chris Carrillo (St. Paul HS/San Jose State University) threw out Rich Samudio, who was trying to steal second. Robinson earned his third save when he got the final out on a ground out.

Cerritos opened the scoring in the first inning when sophomore outfielder Johnny Martinez (Katella HS) led off with a walk and was sacrificed to second base. Robinson, who started the game as the designated hitter, singled to drive in Martinez. The score remained 1-0 until the Falcons added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings off Michael Semonson (4-2). In the fifth, sophomore outfielder Jose Ayala (Maywood Academy HS) led off with a walk, was sacrificed to second and then advanced to third base on a passed ball. Martinez followed with an RBI single.

Sophomore Jose Romero (Whittier HS) singled and stole second base with one out in the sixth inning. He moved to third base on a single by sophomore third baseman Hayden Stevens (Katella HS) before a fielding error on a ground ball by freshman shortstop Daniel Lopez (Monetello HS) brought in Romero with the third run.

Although he allowed just two hits, Algra had to pitch out of a couple of situations because of fielding miscues. In the second inning, an error by Algra, coupled with a single and hit batter loaded the bases with two outs. But Algra got Kyle Ulanday to fly out and end the threat. The Seahawks had a runner on third base on the fifth inning, but Jordan Espino popped up to Stevens for the final out.
