For the third time in the last five games, the Cerritos College baseball team has shut out their opponent in a South Coast Conference game. The Falcon pitching staff tossed their second complete game shutout against first place East Los Angeles College on Sataurday, as they posted a 6-0 win. The victory moved the team to within one game of the first place Huskies (17-8, 9-3) and El Camino College (17-8, 9-3). Cerritos (15-10, 8-4) will now start a three-game set with Pasadena City College (4-19, 1-11), with the first game at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Kincaid Field.

Sophomore Jared Robinson (Bishop Amat HS) pitched nine solid innings and allowed just four hits, while striking out six and walking just one. Robinson (6-3) was backed by a rare triple play, which occurred in the sixth inning. After Kevin Rodriguez singled and Kevin Amezquita reached on a fielder's choice due to an error, Jonathan Larson sent a hard line drive that was caught by freshman second baseman Victor Guadalupe (La Quinta HS) for the first out. With the runners on the go, Guadalupe threw to sophomore first baseman Jose Romero (Whittier HS), who then completed the triple play when he threw to freshman shortstop Daniel Lopez (Montebello HS), which got Robinson out of the jam.

By the time of the triple play, the Falcons were already leading, 6-0, with two of those runs coming in the top of the sixth inning. With two outs, Lopez singled, followed by a double from Guadalupe, putting both runners in scoring position. Sophomore outfielder Jose Ayala (Maywood Academy HS) followed with a base hit that plated both runners.

Cerritos capitalized on several Huskies miscues to get them out into a lead. After sophomore third baseman Hayden Stevens (Katella HS) singled in the second inning, he advanced to second base on a passed ball and to third when a single by Romero was mishandled in the outfield. A ground ball out by Lopez brought home Stevens for the first run of the game. Romero doubled in a pair of runs in the fourth inning, as Robinson reached base on an error and then moved to third base on a error after a single by Stevens, who took second.
