Tied 2-2 heading into the ninth inning against Long Beach City College, the Cerritos College baseball team put five runs on the board and recorded a 7-4 victory. The South Coast Conference win helped them win the series against the Vikings (6-11, 3-3), with the Falcons (10-9, 3-3) now set to start a three-game set against Los Angeles Harbor College. The first game will be played Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Kincaid Field.

Heading into the ninth inning, Cerritos had trailed, 2-0 early on but scored single runs in the fifth and seventh innings to get even. After a one-out single by freshman outfielder Kyle Carpenter (Mayfair HS), and a stolen base with two outs, sophomore third baseman Hayden Stevens (Katella HS) was intentionally walked. A fielding error by Vikings second baseman Pernell Roberts, Jr. on a ground ball by pinch-hitter Joseph Aguirre (Kennedy HS) kept the inning alive.

Freshman pinch-hitter Shane Preston (Deer Creek, OK HS) broke the tie with a double down the left field line that scored two runs. A wild pitch brought in the third run, followed by an RBI single from freshman shortstop Daniel Lopez (Montebello HS). The inning was kept alive when sophomore outfielder Jose Ayala (Maywood Academy HS) was hit by a pitch, followed by another error, which plated Lopez for the fifth run of the inning.

LB City was able to push a pair of runs across the plate in the bottom of the ninth against sophomore starting pitcher Jared Robinson (Bishop Amat HS), who went on to earn the win. Freshman Joe Fernandez (La Habra HS) came on to record the final out of the game when he struck out Tanner Levine.
