With a chance to tie the game in the eighth inning, the Cerritos College baseball team fell short in their comeback and suffered a 3-1 los at the hands of Oxnard College on Friday. The Falcons (4-4) will play their third game in as many days, as they travel to Mt. San Jacinto College for a noon start on Saturday. The team defeated the Eagles, 10-6 on Thursday.

Trailing 2-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, sophomore pitcher Jared Robinson (Bishop Amat HS) led off with a walk against Condors (7-1) starting pitcher Austin Kamel (2-0). After freshman pinch-hitter Aaron David (Katella HS) advanced him with a sacrifice bunt, freshman pinch-hitter Victor Guadalupe (La Quinta HS) laced an 0-1 pitch into center field for an RBI single. Guadalupe was stranded at first base, but the Falcons were starting to build momentum at the plate.

Freshman outfielder Kyle Carpenter (Mayfair HS) greeted relief pitcher Blake Redman with a single and moved to second base on an infield out. After freshman pinch-hitter Kenton McDonald (Long Beach Poly HS) drew a walk, sophomore third baseman Hayden Stevens (Katella HS) singled to right field. Carpenter tried to score from second base, but was thrown out at the plate on a perfect throw from Bronson Shim. Robinson then flew out to end the inning.

Oxnard picked up an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning when freshman pitcher Joe Fernandez (La Habra HS) uncorked a wild pitch while intentionally walking Jordan Farris, which brought home Daniel Barnett, who was on third base after walking and even moved to third on a wild pitch. It was the second run the Condors scored on a wild pitch, as Robinson (1-2) unleashed one in the fourth inning to give Oxnard a 2-0 lead.
