Santiago Canyon College scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to hand the Cerritos College softball team a 2-1 non-conference loss on Wednesday. It was the third game in as many days for the Falcons (2-1), who scored their single run in the top of the first inning, but only collected one hit the remainder of the game. The team will get a day off and then travel to Riverside College for a 3:00 p.m. game on Friday.

In the top of the first inning, sophomore outfielder Aubrey Formano (St. Paul HS/Fullerton College) and sophomore second baseman Regina Ayala (Santa Fe HS/University of Louisiana at Monroe) each drew one-out walks. Freshman third baseman Ariana Mejia (Gahr HS) loaded the bases with a single before sophomore first baseman Andrea Arellano (Downey HS) singled in the Falcons lone run. But that would be all the offense on the day for the team, as they drew three walks and collected a lone single by freshman shortstop Stephanie Olivas (Warren HS) with two outs in the seventh inning the rest of the way.

Sophomore starting pitcher Lily Cornejo (Paramount HS) worked the first two innings and allowed just one hit, before freshman Jamie Ramirez (El Rancho HS) pitched the next two innings. Sophomore Kayla Klein (La Habra HS/Texas A&M University) was victimized by a solo home run to the third batter she faced in the bottom of the fifth inning and then allowed the game-winning run in the seventh to take the loss.
