Sophomore first baseman Andrea Arellano (Downey HS) clubbed a pair of three-run home runs to lead the Cerritos College softball team to a 10-2, five-inning win over Los Angeles Harbor College on Tuesday. The win by the Falcons (4-4, 1-0) was their first game in South Coast Conference play, as the team looks to defend their title. The team will now travel to face rival Mt. San Antonio College at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Arellano jump-started the win in the top of the first inning, as she drilled an 0-1 pitch from Veronica Webb, which also drove in Arianna Hernandez (Santa Fe HS) and Regina Ayala (Santa Fe HS/University of Louisiana at Monroe), who each drew walks. The five-run first inning continued when freshman Ariana Mejia (Gahr HS) followed with a double and scored on a triple by Stephanie Olivas (Warren HS). The fifth run scored on an error, which allowed Olivas to score.

Sophomore starting pitcher Lily Cornejo (Paramount HS) allowed single runs in the first and second inning before freshman Jamie Ramirez (El Rancho HS) came on to earn the win with 3 2/3 innings of one-hit relief.

Mejia drove in a run in the second inning with her second of three doubles on the day, while Arellano finished off the scoring with her second three-run blast of the game. She now has a team-high three home runs and 15 RBI on the year.
