The Cerritos College softball team used three home runs and six extra base hits to help lead them to a 14-2, 5-inning win over East Los Angeles College in a South Coast Conference game at Nancy Kelly Field on Tuesday. The win improved the team's record to 8-6 overall, while they are now 4-1 in conference action. The team will play their second home game in a stretch of four in as many days when they host Glendale College at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

The team scored in each of the four innings they batted, which started by the Falcons scoring twice to erase an early 1-0 Huskie (3-7, 2-3) lead. After freshman Jamie Ramirez (El Rancho HS) reached base on a single, East LA catcher Valerie Aguilar was called for catcher's interference against sophomore Andrea Arellano (Downey HS). Freshman Ariana Mejia (Gahr HS) followed with an RBI single, while sophomore Julia Mendoza (Los Altos HS) added a sacrifice fly.

Sophomore Katie Caraballo (El Rancho HS/Fullerton College) jump-started the second inning with a lead-off home run, while Arellano added a three-run blast to put the team up, 7-1. Mendoza contributed a two-run home run in the Falcons six-run fourth inning, while Ramirez finished the day with three hits and four runs scored. Arellano (four RBI), Mendoza (three RBI), Olivas and freshman Arianna Hernandez (Santa Fe HS), who each added a pair of hits, led the team offensively.

Sophomore pitcher Lily Cornejo (Paramount HS) pitched the first four innings and was charged with both runs, but they were unearned, and picked up the win to improve to 2-3. Ramirez came on to pitch the fifth inning and allowed one infield single.
