Although they surrendered a run in the bottom of the first inning, the Cerritos College softball team turned around and posted a 17-1 win in their South Coast Conference game against ECC Compton Center on Tuesday. The win improved the Falcons record to 20-9 on the year and 11-2 in conference play. The team will now host Santa Ana College in a non-conference game at noon at Nancy Kelly Field.

Cerritos scored runs in each of the next four innings and pounded out 17 hits on the day. Sophomore Ashley Miller (West Torrance HS/North Platte, NE CC) went 4-for-4 at the plate with four RBI, while freshman catcher Samantha Klein (La Habra HS) came in in the third inning and clubbed a bases loaded triple. The trio of sophomore first baseman Andrea Arellano (Downey HS), sophomore outfielder Julia Mendoza (Los Altos HS) and freshman second baseman Stephanie Olivas (Warren HS) each added a pair of hits in the win, while Olivas scored four runs.

Freshman pitcher Jamie Ramirez (El Rancho HS) started the game and allowed an unearned run before freshman Katherine Flores (El Rancho HS) came on in relief and earned the win with three hitless innings.
