The Cerritos College softball team needed only seven hits in their 12-0 South Coast Conference win over Los Angeles Harbor College on Tuesday. The reason for the limited amount of hits was because Seahawks pitcher Joanna Olivo issued 16 walks to Falcon batters, with six of them coming around to score. Cerritos (23-9, 13-2) will now travel to first place Mt. San Antonio College on Thursday for a 3:00 p.m. conference game on Thursday.

In the first inning, the Falcons received a pair of walks, but stranded both runners. In the second inning, the team was able to push a run across the plate after freshman outfielder Haley Whitney (Warren HS) singled to open the stanza, and then moved to second base on a walk to freshman outfielder Danah Vasquez (Santa Fe HS). After a fielder's choice advanced Whitney to third base, she scored on a wild pitch.

But it wasn't until the fourth inning that Cerritos started to score runs in bunches. In the fourth inning, freshman second baseman Stephanie Olivas (Warren HS) walked and stole a pair of bases before sophomore catcher Katie Caraballo (El Rancho HS/Fullerton College) drew a walk and stole second base. After freshman outfielder Arianna Hernandez (Santa Fe HS) walked to load the bases, all three runners advanced on a wild pitch, with Olivas scoring. Sophomore first baseman Andrea Arellano (Downey HS) singled home a pair of runs for a 5-0 lead.

By the end of the game, the Falcons had drawn 16 walks, with Hernandez and Vasquez receiving three each and four others walking twice. Sophomore pitcher Kayla Klein (La Habra HS/Texas A&M University) pitched a two-hit shutout and struck out six batters to improve to 8-3 on the year.
