With the gym set to be completed in the coming months, Cerritos College has been selected to host the 2013-14 CCCAA Men's and Women's Basketball State Championships. The college will host the top four men’s and women’s basketball teams in the state in these single elimination tournaments, scheduled for March 14-16, 2014. Cerritos College started construction on a new gymnasium - named ‘The Aviary’ - back in June of 2010 with the current target date of completion being May of 2013.

“We are pleased to have the opportunity to showcase our newly renovated gym by hosting this prestigious event. With our central location in Southern California, we expect great attendance.  Our goal is that every participant and spectator has a positive and enjoyable experience,” says Cerritos College’s Dean of Health, Physical Education, Dance and Athletics, Dan Smith, Ph.D. 

Leading up to the State Championships are four regional rounds beginning on February 26 and concluding on March 8. These are hosted by the higher seeded teams for each round. On March 14, 2014 the four women’s semifinalists will compete at Cerritos, trying to advance to the women’s State championship game on the 16th. The men’s semifinals will be held on the 15th, with the winners advancing to their State championship game, also scheduled for the 16th.

The 2012-13 basketball State championships are being held at Cosumnes River College, Sacramento, on March 15-17, 2013 before moving down South next year to Cerritos College’s new gymnasium.
