After helping the Cerritos College men's basketball team to a share of the South Coast Conference South Division title and a post-season berth, sophomore forward Dorian Harris (Cerritos HS) has signed with NCAA Division II Chaminade University of Hawaii. The All-State selection was also a two-time 1st Team All-Conference selection, and led the team in scoring (13.4), rebounding (6.1) and free throw percentage (84.2%) this season. Harris was the lone player from the division to earn all-state recognition.
"Dorian is a tireless worker and a coach's dream," stated head coach Russ May. "He is dependable, consistent and very coachable. Dorian is the product of a wonderful family support system and I am very proud of the opportunity he has earned for himself. His loyalty and work ethic will never be forgotten. He is the kind of player all coaches wish to have in their program."
Over the course of the 2020-21 season, Harris scored a career-high 31 points against College of the Desert, while he eclipsed the 20-point mark seven other times. He posted a season-high 13 rebounds against Rio Hondo College and in the following game, he recorded a double-double against Los Angeles Harbor College with 28 points and 11 rebounds. On December 8, he set a new single-game school record with 19 consecutive free throws made in a game against Mt. San Jacinto College.
Harris concludes his career with the eighth best free throw percentage in a season (84.2) and eighth in career three-pointers (96).
He joins a Silverswords team that went 9-18 and dropped their first round game in the PacWest Tournament and will be looked to help improve on the team's 66-point per game average.
Harris will be majoring in Finance.
