Two more members of the Cerritos College men's basketball team have made their decisions on their next destination, as forward Jaishon Forte inked with Talladega (AL) College, while center Andre Fields will be playing at Olds College in Canada next season. They join All-State selection Dorian Harris, who signed with Chaminade (HI) University, as the next two players off a South Coast Conference co-championship team that posted a 17-11 record in 2021-22.
"I'm so very proud of these two men who have worked hard since they arrived on campus," stated head coach Russ May. "They were both part of our conference championship team and have earned the right to play at the four-year level. They held on through the Covid season and came back ready to play. I believe they will both have great careers at their new schools."
Forte, a 1st Team all-conference pick as a freshman, averaged 6.8 points and 5.1 rebounds a game as a sophomore in 18 games. He missed the final eight games, but did turn in a 16-point, seven rebound game in his second to last game in a Falcons uniform. As a freshman, Forte averaged 10.8 points and 7.7 rebounds per game, as the Falcons won the conference title and advanced to the Southern California Regional Playoffs.
As for Fields, he finished his sophomore season in a strong way after missing the last two seasons due to Covid and a red-shirt year. He only saw action in nine games and averaged 5.4 points in his freshman year (2018-19). As a sophomore, he played in 23 games and averaged 7.8 points and 4.2 rebounds a game, which included 15 points and eight rebounds against Los Angeles Southwest College and scored in double digits eight times.
Forte will be joining a Tornadoes team that advanced to the NAIA National Championship game last season and posted a 31-7 record. They won three close games to reach the finals, but dropped a 71-56 decision to Loyola University, who accounted for four of their losses on the year. They need to replace nine seniors, with Forte looking to earn a starting role in the small forward position.
Fields is heading north of the border and is the second Falcons player to sign with a Canadian school joining Malik Smith, who signed with Red Deer College. The colleges in Canada allow players to compete for five seasons, so Fields still has three years of playing eligibility. The Broncos went 4-12 last season and see Fields as a perfect fit for their center position.
