It was one of those games where one team missed numerous scoring chances, while the other converted every chance they generated. For the Cerritos College men's soccer team, they were the squad that had more than their fair share of scoring, but were unable to convert against visiting Mt. San Antonio College on Friday afternoon. The end result was a 3-0 Mountie win in their South Coast Conference match. Cerritos (7-2-2, 2-1-1) will now travel to Pasadena City College for a 4:00 p.m. game next Tuesday.

In the first half, the Falcons had a goal waved off in the 15th minute due to an offside call. On the play, it looked as if freshman Saratiel Campos (Golden Valley, Bakersfield HS) was in front of the final defender, but was ruled to be offside. Only three minutes later, freshman Edzon Cuevas (Animo HS) saw his beautiful scoring opportunity careen off the crossbar, as Cerritos remained off the scoreboard.

On a play that was developing near the net, Mountie Juan Ortega attempted a shot but had it skip off his foot. But on the play, the ball deflected off the back of Mt. San Antonio's Jose Dheming for the game's first goal.

Not to be discouraged by the goal, the Falcons came out in the second half and attacked the Mt. SAC (7-1-3, 3-1-0) defense. It resulted in a great scoring chance by sophomore Gilbert Rocha (Animo HS). Pushing the ball right through the defense, Rocha got off a shot that hit directly off the crossbar, once again denying Cerritos a chance to get on the scoreboard.

Mt. SAC was able to get two more goals in the final 17 minutes of the game, as the Falcons were forced to take chances on defense to try and tie the game. Several other scoring chances were denied and Cerritos lost their second game at home this season.
