Prior to their 8-2 South Coast Conference win at Pasadena City College on Tuesday, the most goals the Cerritos College men's soccer team had scored this season was three. The eight goals were the most by a Falcon team since an 8-0 win at Pasadena City in 2009. The team scored nine goals in three other games that season. This Friday, Cerritos (8-2-2, 3-1-1) will host Los Angeles Harbor College in a 4:00 p.m. South Coast Conference match.

Finally getting rewarded for missed scoring opportunities, Cerritos held a 3-0 lead just 21 minutes into the game. In the first few minutes, freshman Christian Carrillo (Katella HS) stole a Lancer pass and fired in a shot from 20 yards out for the first of his four points on the day. Continuing their offensive pressure, they were awarded a penalty kick in the 21st minute. On the attempt by sophomore Mario Guerrero (University HS), his shot was saved, but he aggressively went after the loose ball and scored. Just 10 minutes later, freshman Connor Johnson (Long Beach Millikan HS) scored his first goal of the season on a lead pass from sophomore Jose Ochoa (Paramount HS) and he scored on the one-timer.

Freshman Steve Martinez (Salesian HS) made it a 4-0 game early in the second half when he found himself on a breakaway in the 50th minute. After the Lancers got on the board, Martinez found the back of the net for the second time on the day when he stole a passing attempt and dribbled the ball in for a shot into an exposed portion of the net.

Three more goals in a 13-minute span blew the game wide open, with Carrillo having a hand in all three. He sent a crossing pass to freshman Diego Perez (Fremont HS), who scored from 20 yards out, while Carrillo picked up a loose ball five minutes later and recorded his second goal of the game. The scoring concluded in the final minute with Carrillo sending a throw-in to freshman Omar Rincon (Columbus HS), who scored his first goal of the season.

On the day, both teams posted 18 shots, with freshman goalkeeper Ivan Del Campo (Granada Hills Kennedy HS) posting 11 saves for the win.
