M. Soccer: Benny Artiaga receives National Award

After leading the Cerritos College men's soccer team to the CCCAA State Championship, Benny Artiaga was named the National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA) National Coach of the Year. Last week, he was in Philadelphia to receive his award, his second (2006) during his Falcon career.

In addition to receiving the national award, Artiage was also selected the West Region Coach of the Year for the third time (2006 & 2008) after leading his teams to the state championship. The Falcons also finished ranked second in the country for the third time in his tenure.

Cerritos defeated rival Mt. San Antonio College, 3-1 in the state championship game and finished the season with a 14-3-8 record on the year. Prior to their championship win, Cerritos had lost and tied the Mounties in their two previous meetings.
