Cerritos College freshman forward Christian Carrillo (Katella HS) was able to re-direct a shot into the net with six minutes left in the second half for a 2-1 non-conference win over Golden West College on Friday. Carrillo, who leads the team with three goals on the year, chipped the ball past Rustlers goalkeeper Jerry Berber, who was coming out of his net to play a pass, but was caught off guard and the game winning goal was scored. The Falcons (5-0-1) will now host Taft College at 4:00 p.m. next Friday.

It was an early 1-0 lead for Cerritos when sophomore Ludwing Vargas (Salesian HS) moved the ball down the right side of the field against the Golden West defense. With the shift in place, he lofted a perfect pass to freshman Saratiel Campos (Golden Valley HS) and he one-timed the shot into the net.

But right before the end of the first half, the Rustlers were able to tie the game when Adonis Robles finished on a centering pass and scored past freshman Ivan Del Campo (Granada Hills Kennedy HS). The play started when Justin Funes stole the ball with the Falcon defense out of position and his pass to Robles resulted in an open net goal.

The overly aggressive game went back and forth throughout the second half, with both teams getting limited scoring chances. Berber made a diving save on a one-timer off the foot of Gilbert Rocha (Animo HS) in the 78th minute to keep the game tied. But six minutes later, the Falcons converted on their scoring opportunity for the winning goal. Del Campo (5-0-1) posted seven saves in the win.
