Swimming in the South Coast Conference Pentathlon at Rio Hondo College on Friday, the Cerritos College men's swimming team had one individual winner, with the team placing fifth overall. The Falcons, who compiled 111 team points, will now compete in the Golden West Invitational on Friday.

Leading the team on the day was freshman Jesus Rojas (Colegio Fray Luis Amigo, Venezuela), who shared first place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 55.92, which was also turned in by Mt, San Antonio College's Philip Wright. Freshman Jeffrey Park (Cerritos HS) placed 16th in the event with a time of 59.66. Only 17 of the 77 swimmers in the event completed the race in under a minute.

Park led the team in the 200-yard IM with a 15th place time of 2:14.51, while sophomore Mitchell Bowman (Lakewood HS) completed the 100-yard backstroke with an 11th place time of 1:03.95. Freshman Paul Vega (Northview HS) was right behind with a time of 1:04.30, which put him in 13th place overall.

Rojas also earned a fifth place finish in the 100-yard freestyle when he clocked a time of 50.80, with freshman Nick Apodaca (Downey HS) earning 16th place with a time of 52.63. The trio of sophomore Kevin De Leon (El Segundo HS), sophomore Daniel Loeza (Hamilton HS) and Park finishing in 19th through 21st places, respectively in the 100-yard breaststroke.

In the 200-yard medley relay, the quartet of Bowman, De Leon, Rojas and Apocda came in fifth place with a time of 1:49.25.

The second day saw the Cerritos divers in action. In the 1-meter event, freshman Randy Encarnacion (Mayfair HS) placed fifth with 107.75 points, while his 3-meter point total of 78.60 put him in sixth place.
