In their first South Coast Conference dual meet of the season, the Cerritos College men's swimming team posted a split. The Falcons (1-1) defeated El Camino College, 187-70, but suffered a 188-88 setback against host Mt. San Antonio College on Friday. The team will now travel to compete in the Cuesta Invitational next weekend.

In the three-team meet, Cerritos won three events, starting with the 200-yard medley relay. The quartet of Paul Vega (Northview HS), Kevin De Leon (El Segundo HS), Jesus Rojas (Colegio Fray Luis Amigo, Venezuela) and Davey Brown (Whittier HS), who turned in a time of 1:47.46. That barely edged the Mounties, who touched up in 1:47.51.

Rojas won the other two individual events, as he swam the 200-yard butterfly in 2:06.14 and then held off Mt. SAC's Greg White in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 55.79 to win by a little over a second. Cerritos posted five second place finishes, with Mitchell Bowman (Lakewood HS) and Daniel Loeza (Hamilton HS) each earning two apiece.

Bowman came in second place in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:01.06, while his time of 2:13.04 in the 200-yard backstroke was easily the second fastest time. For Loeza, he recorded a second place time of 1:07.07 in the 100-yard breaststroke and just missed out on coming in first place in the 200-yard breaststroke when he turned in a tiem of 2:30.33.

Brown and Nick Apodaca (Downey HS) finished in second and third places with their respective time of 23.06 and 23.16. In the 1000-yard freestyle, Christian Garcia (Gahr HS) turned in a third place time of 12:58.59, with the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Apodaca, De Leon, Loeza and Joel Bautista (Paramount HS) coming in third place at 3:38.96.
