On Friday, the Cerritos College men's swimming team picked up a pair of South Coast Conference wins, as they defeated host Pasadena City College (132-111) and Rio Hondo College (182-90). The Falcons (4-2) will host their second conference meet of the season next Friday, when they welcome Chaffey College at 12:30 p.m.

The team was able to earn the two wins while winning just three events, but earned second place points in eight other events to garner more team points. 

Posting a first place in the 200-yard freestyle was freshman Jesus Rojas (Colegio Fray Luis Amigo, Venezuela), who recorded a time of 1:50.63, which was just ahead of second place finisher Sergei Alekseev of Rio Hondo, who touched up in 1:50.80. Rojas also earned second place finished in the 100-yard freestyle (49.57) and 100-yard butterfly. He was edged out in the freestyle by Rio Hondo's Jeremy Foster (49.23), with his time of 54.38 just behind Phillip Lee of PCC with his time of 54.36.

In the final event of the day, the Falcons turned in a first place time of 3:22.84 to win the 400-yard freestyle with the quartet of Davey Brown (Whittier HS), Jeffrey Park (Cerritos HS), Kevin De Leon (El Segundo HS) and Rojas. Brown also took second place in the 50-yard freestyle (22.96), which was only bested by Alekseev and his time of 22.75. Sophomore Peter Roldan (Downey HS) posted a third place time of 23.51.

Cerritos also earned big points in the diving competition, with Randy Encarnacion (Mayfair HS), who came in first place with 86.65, while teammate Edward Salgado (Paramount HS) compiled 60.20 points for second place.

Sophomore Mitchell Bowman (Lakewood HS) picked up a pair of second place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.14) and 200-yard backstroke (2:14.40), with sophomore Daniel Loeza (Hamilton HS) posting a second place time in the 100-yard breaststroke of 1:07.84. In the 200-yard medley relay, the team of Bowman, Loeza, Roldan and freshman Preston Medina (Downey HS) placed second in a time of 1:49.65.
