M. Tennis: Cerritos suffers rare loss in 5-4 decision to SD Mesa

Taking on a talented San Diego Mesa College team on Friday, the Cerritos College men's tennis team dropped a rare decision, 5-4 in a non-conference match. The Falcons (10-2) will travel to Ventura College for a non-conference match next Friday.

With the match locked at 4-4, it all came down to the #3 doubles to decide the winner. With the set tied at 6-6, freshman Mathieu David (Nimes, France) and sophomore Milos Zoric (Gimnazjia Indiji, Serbia) had their serve broken. Then, with Mesa's Felippo Bedin and Corentin Haener leading 8-7, a pair of groundstroke errors did in the Falcons, and they dropped a 9-7 score.

The six singles matches were split, with three of them going to a third set. Freshman Agustin Lombardi (E.S.O.S., Argentina) was able to pull out a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win in the #4 position. However, freshman Mark Antoniuk (W. 124 School, Russia) fell at #3, 2-6, 6-4, 1-6. It was the same for freshman Henry Ayesiga (Malezi School, Kenya), who came up sport in his comeback, 0-6, 6-4, 4-6.

Sophomore Amadi Kagoma (Malezi School, Kenya) earned two of the team's points with his 6-2, 6-0 win at the top of the ladder. He also teamed with freshman Antonio Torrebella-Clark (Cypress HS) for an 8-3 win in doubles. David also won his singles match, 6-2, 6-4.
