With seven runs in the final two innings, the Cerritos College softball team put the run rule in effect in their 11-2, 5-inning victory over visiting Compton College in a South Coast Conference game on Thursday. The Falcons, who collected 11 hits on the day, also utilized three Compton errors to help them end the game early. On Friday, Cerritos (6-7) will host Ventura College at 2:00 p.m. in a game that was rescheduled from an earlier rainout.

Leading 4-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, sophomore Alize Lopez (John Glenn HS/Rio Hondo College) led off with a single, but was cut down on a fielder's choice. With freshman outfielder Haley Davis (Mayfair HS) on first base, she got the inning going with a stolen base and then scored on a double by sophomore shortstop Tena Spoolstra (Mayfair HS). After a walk to sophomore first baseman Keira Bolinas (Torrance HS), the two advanced on a wild pitch and then scored on an errant throw by Compton shortstop Cristina Vallardes, which allowed two runs to score.

A leadoff walk to freshman outfielder Itzel Soto (Long Beach Millikan HS) started the fifth inning, and also ended the day for starting pitcher Yazzmine Arrington Edwards, who also accounted for both Comtpon runs with a home run. Freshman outfielder Erica Martinez (Kennedy HS) was then walked on four pitches, while a single by Lopez loaded the bases. Davis then drove in a run on a hard line drive to third base that plated the first run of the inning. A wild pitch accounted for the second run, with Spoolstra ending the game with a ground ball that Arrington Edwards was unable to field at first base, which brought in two more runs.

Sophomore pitcher Sierra Gerdts (Montebello HS) picked up the win after allowing two runs on three hits and picked up a pair of strikeouts.

At the plate, Spoolstra went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI, with Bolinas and Lopez also posting a pair of hits. Soto and Martinez each reached base three times with a base hit and a pair of walks.
