After getting on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth inning to get to within 2-1, the Cerritos College softball team saw Citrus College hit a grand slam in the bottom of the inning. The result was a 6-1 non-conference loss on Saturday, which drops the Falcons record to 11-12. The team will host Long Beach City College in a South Coast Conference game at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Trailing 2-0 heading into the top of the sixth inning, sophomore shortstop Tena Spoolstra (Mayfair HS) led off with a double to center field and advanced to third on a single by freshman outfielder Haley Davis (Mayfair HS). Heading to second base on a steal, Spoolstra then took off for home and stole the base to put the Falcons on the board. Davis was then thrown out at third base trying to steal, which ended the team's scoring threat.

In the bottom of the sixth inning and runners on first and second with one out, sophomore pitcher Sierra Gerdts (Montebello HS) came on in relief of sophomore Ally Udell (Whittier Christian HS). After walking Giavanna Muenz to load the bases, Alexis Acosta hit a grand slam to put the Owls on top, 6-1.

The Falcons had runners on second base in the third and fourth innings, but could not cash them in. Sophomore outfielder Victoria Medina (Whittier HS/Rio Hondo College) singled with two outs in the seventh inning, but would be stranded at first base when the final out was recorded.
