The Cerritos College softball team has announced that two of their players have signed National Letters of Intent with four-year schools. Pitcher Sierra Gerdts (Montebello HS), who was a 1st Team All-South Coast Conference selection as a sophomore after earning 2nd Team recognition her freshman season, has signed with NAIA school University of Saint Mary (KS). Also signing was infielder/designated player Nicoal Magdaleno (La Habra HS), who will have two years of eligibility at San Diego Christian College, another NAIA school.

On the season, Gerdts started in 19 of the 30 games in which she appeared and went 9-5 with one save and a 3.23 ERA. She completed five games and appeared in 91 1/3 innings. Her longest outing of the season was 7 2/3 innings in a loss to Los Angeles Harbor College, while she didn't allow an earned run in 13 of her outings.

As a freshman, Gerdts posted a 16-13 record with one save and appeared in 168 1/3 innings. She completed 13 of her 28 starts and saw action in 36 games.

Magdaleno went 7-for-43 (.163) at the plate her sophomore season which included six RBI, one double and four walks. She drove in the lone run in a playoff loss to Mt. San Antonio College and collected three of her hits in a pinch-hitting role. In her freshman campaign, Magdaleno batted .372 (16-for-43) with three doubles and 10 RBI. She posted a pair of three-hit games, including one in the final game of the season against College of the Canyons in the postseason.

Gerdts, who will major in psychology and aspires to be a nurse, will be joining a Spires team that was 11-27 and had 20 of their games canceled due to weather. They had two pitchers graduate, which gives Gerdts a strong chance of seeing action in the circle next season.

Magdaleno will be joining a Hawks team that was 12-33 in 2019 and loses six players to graduation. Magdaleno, who will major in kinesiology with a career ambition of being a physical therapist, can play second base or third base, as well as serve as a designated player. San Diego Christian College just completed their seventh softball season in school history.
