Cerritos College sophomore shortstop Tena Spoolstra (Mayfair HS), who was named 2nd Team All-Southern California and won the Golden Spikes Award, has signed a National Letter of Intent with Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

In 2019, Spoolstra batted .439 and led the state in stolen bases with 42 and earned 3CFCA All-Southern California recognition. Also a two-time 1st Team All-South Coast Conference selection, Spoolstra had a 16-game hitting streak during the season and led the team in hits (58) and runs scored (46).

"As much as I really enjoyed my time at Cerritos and with everyone here, I'm excited and ready to experience something new," said Spoolstra, who will major in criminal justice. "I owe so much to Coach (Kodee) Murray for everything she's done in my time here. She's helped through so much and I'll always be grateful for that. We were all treated so well with a great training staff, especially Maria Castro, and our groundskeeper Bill, who always had the field in great condition."

Spoolstra (pictured, above) had 19 multiple-hit games during the season, which included a 4-for-4 game where she scored four runs and stole five bases against Grossmont College in the team's regular season finale. She also posted six three-hit games during the year. A solid defensive player, Spoolstra recorded an amazing 11 defensive assists in a game against East Los Angeles College. She finished the season with a .921 fielding percentage and posted 77 putouts and 110 defensive assists.

Her .439 batting average was the 17th best in a season in school history, while her 42 stolen bases ranks her third, and her 58 hits puts her name 20th on the school's single season list. Her 46 runs scored tie her for 16th on the single season list. The 93 career hits amassed by Spoolstra puts her 25th in the record books and she's 15th with her 76 runs scored. Spoolstra is tied for 16 with her 36 career walks and sits in second place with 58 career stolen bases.

Spoolstra, who can play shortstop, second base or outfield, will be joining a Savage Storm team that went 29-28 last season and finished fourth in the Great American Conference.
