For the first time since their opening game of the season, the Cerritos College women's soccer team recorded a shutout. The Falcons (3-8-1, 1-4-1) scored single goals in each half to post a 2-0 South Coast Conference win over Rio Hondo College on Tuesday. The team will host Los Angeles City College at 1:45 p.m. on Friday.

It only took Cerritos three minutes to get on the board against the Roadrunners (3-6-1, 1-2-1), as sophomore Meghan Legayada (Sunny Hills HS) jumped on a loose ball and fired a shot into the back of the net to post her team-leading sixth goal of the season.

The Falcon defense played a strong game in front of freshman goalkeeper Victoria Ruiz (Applied Technology Center HS), who made 10 saves in the game and recorded her second shutout of the season. Rio Hondo looked to send the ball ahead, but Cerritos held strong and when they got off a shot, Ruiz was there to turn them away.

Coming out of halftime, the Falcons continued to show their offensive improvements with crisper passes and were able to control the ball deeper in Rio Hondo territory. In the 53rd minute, Cerritos picked up an insurance goal, as freshman Lissette Saucedo (Huntington Park HS) found sophomore Katie Alexander (Mayfair HS/Vanguard University), who completed the play with a shot into the far corner that netted her second goal of the year. The assist was also the first point of the season for Saucedo.
