Playing in a torrential rainstorm, the Cerritos College women's soccer team capped off their season with a win on penalty kicks against Los Angeles City College on Tuesday. After playing to a scoreless draw in regulation of the seventh place game of the South Coast Conference Tournament, the Falcons converted three penalty kicks and limited the Cubs to just one.

Freshman goalie Victoria Ruiz (Applied Technology Center HS), who finished just two saves shy of tying the school's single-season saves record, stopped a pair of LA City penalty kick attempts, which helped secure the win for the Falcons. Ruiz finished the season with 112 saves, with the record of 144 set by Maria Santoyo in 2012. Ruiz also ended the season by 380 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal.

After missing their first attempt and the Cubs scoring on theirs, sophomore Lauren Vazquez (Mayfair HS) converted her kick, with Ruiz making a stop on Audrey Becerra. Sophomore Mary Morales (Santa Ana HS) followed with a penalty kick, and after LA City's Andrea Martin saw her attempt sail over the crossbar, Cerritos was on top, 2-1. The Falcons missed their next attempt, with Ruiz stepping up once again to turn away Stephanie Cardenas. Freshman Brianna Montano (Troy HS) locked down the win with her conversion, with the Falcons ending their season with a 6-9-3 record.

Neither team had any solid scoring chances, as the teams were playing in a heavy sideways rain due to the addition of the wind.
