For the second game in a row, the Cerritos College women's soccer team turned in a clean sheet, as they posted a 2-0 South Coast Conference win over visiting Los Angeles City College on Friday. The win improves the Falcons overall record to 4-8-1, while they are now 2-4-0 in conference play. The team will travel to Los Angeles Harbor College next Tuesday for a 6:30 p.m. conference match. In their final non-conference game, Cerritos and the Seahawks played to a 2-2 tie.

The game remained scoreless, although the Falcons had a couple of great scoring chances, including a goal that was disallowed due to a foul. On that play, the Falcons lined up for a corner kick in the 42nd minute, where it appeared as though freshman Casandra Gomez (Norwalk HS) had scored. However, she was ruled to have fouled the Cubs (3-8-2, 1-4-1) goalkeeper, which negated her goal. In extra time of the first half, sophomore Lauren Vazquez (Mayfair HS) lined a shot from 25 yards out, with LA City goalkeeper Ahney Mora getting up high enough to deflect the ball away.

Cerritos finally got on the board in the 70th minute when Vazquez passed the ball to freshman Reghan Roscoe (Montwood, TX HS) just inside LA City territory. Roscoe brought the ball in alone to just outside the 18-yard box, where she fired a shot into the upper corner for her third goal of the season.

With the game in extra time, sophomore Valerie Becerra (La Serna HS) added an insurance goal when she finished a play that was started by Gomez. Taking over possession of the ball after it bounced past her defender, Gomez saw that Becerra was left alone, and she sent a shot into the open half of the net left available.

Freshman goalkeeper Victoria Ruiz (Applied Technology Center HS) recorded her second straight shutout, and third of the season, as she made three saves. The biggest save of the game came right after Cerritos took a 1-0 lead. Facing Wendy Gomez all alone in front of the net after a turnover, Ruiz stopped the point blank shot by Gomez.
