W. Swimming: Team takes seventh place at Cuesta Invite

With the Cerritos College women's swimming team competing in only 13 of the events at the Cuesta Invitational, the team was able to compile 162 points, which put them in seventh place. The Falcons will now resume South Coast Conference competition on Friday at 12:30 p.m. when they travel to Mt. San Antonio College to take on the Mounties and Rio Hondo College.

Competing in their specialty events, Cerritos swimmers turned in top 10 showings in seven events, while all three of the relay teams finished in the top 11 of their events.

Freshman Raquel Gabayeron (Cerritos HS) had the best individual finish of the day, as she turned in a fourth place performance in the 50-yard butterfly with a clocking of 27.88, while she came in seventh place in both the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.17) and 200-yard IM with a time of 2:20.10. In the 200-yard IM, she was bested by her sister, sophomore Katherine Gabayeron (Cerritos HS), who finished in sixth place in a time of 2:19.60. Katherine also took eighth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:04.20 and was 11th with a clocking of 1:13.85 in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Sophomore Janine Loera (Paramount HS) recorded a time of 32.16 to place seventh in the 50-yard backstroke, while freshman teammate Carla Harvey (Potomac Falls, VA HS) was ninth in the 100-yard backstroke, as she finished in 1:07.27.

The 800-yard freestyle relay team of Katherine Gabayeron, Raquel Gabayeron, Harvey and freshman Teresa Zuniga (California HS) touched up in 8:49.72 to finish in sixth place, while the quartet of the Gabayeron sisters, Harvey and freshman Milena Hernandez (Cerritos HS) were timed in 1:59.98 to earn eighth place. Additionally, freshman Angela Covarrubias (Paramount HS), the Gabayeron sisters and Hernandez placed 11th in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:58.10.
