The sister duo of Katherine Gabayeron (Cerritos HS) and Raquel Gabayeron (Cerritos HS) made an immediate impact on the first weekend of the Cerritos College women's swimming team's season. Katherine Gabayeron, who was a three-time All-Amercian last season, won a pair of races in the five-event pentathlon on Friday and then two more at the Waterman Relays on Saturday. As for Raquel Gabyeron, she also won two of the five pentathlon events and followed that with a first place and second place at the relays the next day. As a team, the Falcons, who came in third place in the team scoring with 471 points, will compete next in the East Los Angeles Pentathlon on Friday.

Katherine Gabayeron recorded an overall time of 3:05.94 to beat out the other 59 swimmers in the pentathlon, with Raquel Gabayeron finishing with a cumulative time of 3:06.42. In the 50-yard breaststroke, Katherin Gabayeron won the event in 33.35, and her time of 26.28 won the 50-yard freestyle. She finished in second place in the 100-yard IM (1:05.36) behind Raquel Gabayeron's time of 1:05.18, while Raquel also won the 50-yard butterfly (28.69) and took second in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 30.36.

The duo of freshman Carla Harvey (Potoman Falls, VA HS) and sophomore Yuridia Vela (Schurr HS) finished in 11th and 12th places, respectively at the pentathlon.

In the relays, Katherine Gabayeron took first place in both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.84) and 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:39.34, while Raquel Gabayeron won the 100-yard butterfly with a clocking of 1:05.55, while her time of 2:29.30 earned her a second place in the 200-yard IM.

Harvey (1:07.39) and Vela (1:09.50) finished in fourth and fifth in the 100-yard backstroke, while sophomore Sharon Ku (Cerritos HS) took fourth place in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:24.59. Freshman Angela Covarrubias (Paramount HS) placed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle in 27.75. In the relays, Cerritos won the 200-yard medley relay (2:02.55) and 600-yard Iron Woman relay (7:05.61), while taking second in the 350-yard breaststroke (4:48.55).
