Playing  pair of South Coast Conference games in one day, the Cerritos College women's water polo teams earned wins over Pasadena City College (18-3) and East Los Angeles College (21-4) on Wednesday at the Falcon Aquatic Center. With the wins, the Falcons improve to 6-11 overall and 3-2 in conference play. The team will now compete in the Pasadena City Tournament over the weekend.

In the opening win over the Lancers (1-10, 0-5), Cerritos opened up a 9-0 lead in the first quarter and held a 12-0 advantage at halftime. Eleven players scored at least one goal in the victory, with freshman Celeste Ibarra (Gahr HS) finding the back of the net five times. Sophomore Teresa Zuniga (California HS) scored all three of her goals in the first quarter and added a pair of assists and steals. In the second half, freshman goalkeeper Catherine Borunda (El Rancho HS) played in the field and scored a goal in the fourth quarter. Sophomore Catie Tuning (Los Altos HS/University of La Verne), the team's leading scorer, played sparingly and accounted for one goal and three assists, with Bianca Serrano (Cerritos HS) and Kaitlyn Mendez (Cerritos HS) each playing one period in goal after scoring from the field in the first half.

The nightcap against the Huskies (1-14, 1-4) saw freshman Claudia Martinez (Roosevelt HS) lead all scorers with six goals, while she added four steals, as the Falcons took a 6-0 lead after the first quarter. Ibarra matched her five-goal output from the first game, with Mendez accounting for four goals, five steals and four assists in the win. Several players scored their first goals of the season in the two games, including Ashley Padilla (California HS), Meghan Gonzalez (Whittier HS), Camille Toral (Gahr HS) and Stephanie Alfaro (Gahr HS). Padilla also had three steals, with Gonzalez dishing out four assists. As for Tuning, she scored three times and assisted on four others.
