The Cerritos College women's water polo team split their four games at the truWest Battle at the Beach Tournament over the weekend. On the opening day at Cypress College, the Falcons handed San Diego Mesa College (11-7) and Citrus College (5-4) losses, while the team was defeated by Cuesta College (11-10) and Ventura College (11-7) on the second day at Long Beach City College. Cerritos (13-14) will play their final South Coast Conference game on Wednesday at Chaffey College before the start of the conference tournament.

Cerritos vs. San Diego Mesa: It was a close match for the first half (7-5) and the Falcons made their move in the third quarter. Cerritos picked up an extra goal lead at the end of each quarter until they finished with a four-goal advantage. Sophomore Catie Tuning (Los Altos HS/University of La Verne) played a strong all-around game, as she recorded two goals, three steals and four assists, while also drawing five ejections. The Falcons were able to score on four of those advantages, and had six power play goals in the match. Freshman Claudia Martinez (Roosevelt HS) led the team with three goals, while the duo of sophomore Teresa Zuniga (California HS) and freshman Ashley Padilla (California HS) each finished with three steals.

Cerritos vs. Citrus: The Falcons took plenty of shots in their win, which required three fourth quarter goals to come back from a 4-2 deficit. Freshman goalkeeper Catherine Borunda (El Rancho HS) posted 12 saves in the win, while Cerritos attempted 29 shots at the Owls cage. Tuning and freshman Kaitlyn Mendez (Cerritos HS) each scored a pair of goals, while four players recorded two steals each.

Cerritos vs. Cuesta: Playing a very good Cougars team, the Falcons played the majority of the game from behind. Just like the game against Citrus, Cerritos had their chances at scoring and missed on 34 attempts. Tuning led the team with five goals, while Mendez had four goals and four steals. The team was also only able to score on one of six man-advantages, while Cuesta scored on three of their five chances.

Cerritos vs. Ventura: The tournament ended with Tuning scoring four of the team's goals, as the Falcons were only able to get as close as 6-4 at halftime. Borunda made six saves in the match, while three other players scored once.
