With their 16-5 win over host Rio Hondo College on Wednesday, the Cerritos College women's water polo team held on to third place in the South Coast Conference. The Falcons (10-12, 4-2) will travel to El Camino College next Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. and then have a critical game against second place Chaffey College in their final conference match. The final standings determine the seeding for the conference tournament.

In the win over the Roadrunners (1-9, 1-4), sophomore Katie Tuning (Los Altos HS/University of LaVerne) helped the team pull away after a slow first quarter where the Falcons led, 3-2. She scored seven of the team's goals and helped set up several others when she was double-teamed. That helped opened up scoring chances for freshman Claudia Mendez (Roosevelt HS), who added four goals, three steals and a pair of assists for the Falcons. It was an 8-3 Cerritos lead at halftime, while they outscored the Roadrunners 8-2 in the second half.

Sophomore Bianca Serrano (Cerritos HS) helped jump-start the offense with five steals, while freshman Kaitlyn Mendez (Cerritos HS) dished out four assists to go along with her two goals. In the net, freshman Catherine Borunda (El Rancho HS) turned away five Rio Hondo shots.
