If the Cerritos College women's water polo team knew they would only allow four goals in their South Coast Conference game against Chaffey College on Wednesday, they probably would have been happy. But the Falcons were only able to score three times, and dropped a 4-3 decision to the Panthers in their final regular season match. Cerritos (13-15, 5-3) will now compete in the conference tournament at Rio Hondo College next week and know they need to win the championship in order to advance to the Southern California Regional Playoffs.

The Panthers (20-8, 6-1), who will be the #2-seeded tournament at the conference tournament, scored single goals in each of the four quarters, while the #4-seeded Falcons spent the entire contest trying to take their first lead of the game.

Sophomore Catie Tuning (Los Altos HS/University of La Verne), who leads the team with 82 goals, was held scoreless. The only offense came from the trio of sophomores Teresa Zuniga (California HS) and Bianca Serrano (Cerritos HS), along with freshman Celeste Ibarra (Gahr HS), who all scored once. Zuniga also led the team with five steals, with freshman goalkeeper Catherine Borunda (El Rancho HS) posting 11 saves in the loss.
