On their second day at the Cuesta Tournament, the Cerritos College women's water polo team split their two games to go 3-1 over the weekend. The Falcons (4-1), who opened the day with a 10-5 win over Diablo Valley College, suffered their first loss of the season in a 13-7 setback against Santa Barbara City College. The team will resume South Coast Conference play on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. when they host East Los Angeles College.

Cerritos vs. Diablo Valley: Trailing 3-2 early in the second quarter, the Falcons were locked in a 4-4 match at halftime. The team came out in the second half and outscored the Vikings, 6-1 the remainder of the game. Sophomore Mikaela Padilla (Schurr HS) gave the team a 5-4 lead early in the third quarter with a goal, and after neither team could score for the next several minutes, Diablo Valley tied with game with 3:24 left in the quarter. That would be their final goal, with Padilla scoring three times and a trio of others adding a goal. Padilla finished with four goals, while both Channon Owens (Kennedy HS) and Isabella Sierra (California HS) posted a pair of tallies. Sierra also added five steals, with freshman Dulce Medina (Paramount HS) turning away eight second half shots in goal.

Cerritos vs. Santa Barbara City: An early 1-0 lead didn't last very long for the Falcons, as the Vaqueros scored the next seven goals and held an 11-2 lead after three quarters. But Cerritos did not quit and scored five times in the fourth quarter. Sierra posted three of those fourth quarter goals and finished with four in the game, while Owens had a pair of assists and steals, with Padilla and freshman Kayla Peko (La Habra HS) also accounting for two steals. Cerritos hurt their chances with 19 turnovers against Santa Barbara City. Freshman goalie Ivanna Tostado (Troy HS) made five first half saves.
